Free Camping in BC

Camping for free is the best way to camp. It gives you a chance to really get back to nature because you camp without services. You see more unique places with less camping pressure because you’re in the company of fewer people.

You can camp for free in BC in various way. One makes use of Forest Service sites. The second explores backroads and camps on them. The third involves parking the vehicle and hiking, biking, paddling or using some other mode of transport to penetrate the back country.

The majority of land in BC (81%) is Crown Land, which means it’s public . That’s covered by over 200,000 kilometres of dirt roads. }These logging and resource roads open vast areas of the province to campers who want to camp for free.

The BC Forest Service maintains almost 1,300 Forest Service Recreation sites. The majority of them cost no money to use, although some have small user fees. The sites are usually chosen for some sort of reason, be it natural beauty or a local attraction. About half of them are maintained by the Forest Service, local First nations or some other group. The rest of them are user maintained, meaning what you pack in you have to pack out.

You can also access free camping by exploiting the network of roads. Often these are some of the best sites. You’re allowed to stay at one place for up to 14 days by law. You will find roads leading to lakes, or crossing rivers or meadows that make great camping places. Watch for logging trucks, especially during the week, and try to get off to the side of the road when you encounter one.

Its a good idea to take drinking water with you, or have a method to purify it. In most sites firewood will be easy to find. The huge amount of standing dead bugwood makes it easy to get plenty of dry firewood with a chainsaw. Practice safe firemaking, and make sure your fire is extinguished when you leave. Forest fires are a huge threat in BC. Fire season starts in most areas by April and last to October.

For more adventure leave your vehicle at the road. ATVS and snowmobiles are another way to get access. These modes of transport can get you to really wild areas. You will likely get some great wildlife viewing chances this way.

There are also canoe routes and trail networks created by the Forest Service. In the South Chilcotin, on the east slope of the Coast Range, there is an extensive trail network. Some of these routes are suitable for begiiners while others are dangerous for those without experience.

Remember to pack out everything that you pack in. Make sure you practice good waste disposal techniques. Use the fire rings you find, and leave the camps clean and free of garbage. It sucks to find a great place littered with someone else’s garbage. Leaving cut wood for the next guy is a nice way to pay it forward. Some people will leave frying pans or buckets or grills in some backcountry camps. Use them, but leave them for the next guy when you go.

Bears can pose a challenge, as can other wildlife. Keep your camp clean and be bear aware. It’s a good idea to keep food away from where you sleep, or hung in trees, especially if you’re unarmed or in a small party. You don’t want to be caught in a small tent in the middle of the night, together with your food, looking for bear spray. It’s completely differnt to see a bear from the campsite with a bunch of other people during the daytime . Common sense is the order of the day. In truth, mind you, you’ll have more problems with mice pilfering food than with bears.

What do you need for a hydroponic setup? Is it hard to construct one?

Is it easy to find the materials? Do you need specific technical expertise? Is there room for creativity?

It’s quite straightforward. You need a big container that holds water, a couple pumps (one air and one water) and some hose. The supplies are easy to find. They are pretty straightforward as far as putting them together goes. You can be extremely creative.

We’ll begin with the container. You have three options. If you want you can use one container for everything. You can use two containers, a reservoir and a holding pot. Or you can have a reservoir and multiple plant holding pots.

In the single container system the reservoir and plant holding container are combined. You put the water/nutrient mix in the reservoir, and then pump it over the plant. The solution is fed to the plant and then gravity takes it back to the reservoir. The pump and air pump are kept inside below the roots.The system is small and simple. The drawbacks are that you have to remove the plant to access the pumps or change the solution, and the roots can grow into the pump.

With a two container system you take up more space. Changing the solution and accessing the pumps is much easier, though. It’s also good to keep the roots away from the pump Even better, you don’t have to move the plants to get into the reservoir and access the pumps and solution.

Many plants and one reservoir qualifies as a multiple container system. With this set up you don’t have to move any plants to change or test the solution or get to the pumps. It’s good for multiple plants if you have.

One, two or multiple containers is your decision. There are pros and cons with all of them. Make your choice and get to work.

Multiple Colas Through Triming

Can you grow multiple colas on one plant? The answer is yes. 3It’s actually very easy and straightforward. By carefully pruning the plant when it’s young you can get 2 or 4 main colas.

So, what is a cola, anyway? No problem. Cola means tail in Spanish, and is the name given to the long buds that the plant produces. Not all plants produce them due to how they are grown, and some produce huge ones. If you’re growing as a hobby I recommend trying to get some big ones as they are more impressive.

You’ll likely get the biggest colas by growing single ones. Still, if you want more yield then multiple colas will probably deliver. There are two main ways to do this: trimming and training. We’ll talk about trimming in this article.

ways to grow marijuana

Pinching off the main stem of the young plant is what I’m calling “trimming”. This is a time honored garnering technique. Gardeners have been doing it for centuires. Fuchsia growers regularly pinch off growing tips to get more blossoms. This technique also works with plants that you want to develop more branches. You can keep a plant that would normally grow tall small and bushy.

With this kind of plant you can use a few pinching techniques. Each method gives a slightly different result. There are fans of both approaches. Try each and decide for yourself which is the one you like most.

You should let the plant grow until it has 5 or 6 sets of branches. The place where these branches leave the main stem are called nodes. The plant has a main growing stem, from which it throws out pairs of branches. The growing tip continues to grow up the center between each set of branches.

If you cut this growing tip off the plant will react by replacing it with two new ons on each side of the pinched off stem. These will then grow as if the plant had two main stems. Each will shoot off leaves and branches, but each will remain dominant stems.
You can do this different ways. . You’ll get lots of little buds, but no huge colas. Or, you can pinch less. One way will produce two big colas and the other will produce four. Both will result in some big colas.

The way to get four colas is to wait until you have more good nodes (4-6). You cut off the main stem leaving two nice healthy nodes below. The plant will send out two new stems where you pinched it off, as well as two more from the node right below. That’s four colas. The second way is to pinch the plant off one node lower. With only one good node left to sprout out main stems you’ll only get two new sprouts. Two stems = two colas.

Can you wait until the plant is bigger and pinch it off higher? Will I get 6, 8, 10 colas? The answer is yes, but the colas are smaller. It will cause more sprouting, but the stems come from growth hormone that goes to the top of the plant.However, you can only go so far with that. Also, more colas means smaller colas, and small colas are not really colas at all. They still work, mind you, and will perhaps increase overall yieldThey’ll bloom and work fine, but they’ll be small. The growth hormone will have been too spread out. Too much pruning will get lots of small buds, not lots of huge colas.

It’s that easy. Gardeners will argue about which method is best, but it’s hard to get a definitive answer. There are too many other inputs that can vary. Light, strain and nutrients will make a big difference in results. If you have all the light coming from above it won’t reach lower parts of the plant as well as it reaches higher parts and the lower buds will suffer as a result. As they start growing they’ll also tend to spread apart and let light into the center of the plant (and as a result get lower into the plant, letting more of it get light energy). It’s about fun, not maximum yield. Fool around and remember to root the main stem that you clip off for the future!

Pruning Your Way To More Colas

Can one plant have more than one cola? Yes, you can. 3It’s actually very easy and straightforward. By carefully pruning the plant when it’s young you can get 2 or 4 main colas.

Before we get started, what exactly is a cola? That’s easy. Cola means tail in Spanish, and is the name given to the long buds that the plant produces. You won’t see them on every plant, but some will have giants. If you’re growing for fun you should try for big coals because it will impress people.

You’ll likely get the biggest colas by growing single ones. Some gardeners feel that more colas means more yield, however, and they have a point. You can do it by training the plant or by trimming it. We’ll talk trimming here.

By trimming I mean pinching off the central stem near the top of the plant. This won’t be news to anyone with other gardening experience. It’s a very common practice. If you’ve ever grown fuchsias, for example, you know that if you pinch off the growing tips while the plant is young you’ll get way more flowers. It also works with different plant varieties. You can encourage bushy, rather than tall, growth.

You should let the plant grow until it has 5 or 6 sets of branches. The place on the stem where branches pop out is a node. The nodes occur on the plant’s main stem, which is where the plant branches off. The plant keeps growing up the center by popping out a shoot between the nodes, going upwards.

If you cut this growing tip off the plant will react by replacing it with two new nos on each side of the pinched off stem. These will create two new main stems. Each will shoot off leaves and branches, but each will remain dominant stems.

There are different methods that you can use. In fact, if you like you can just pinch off every growing tip you find, and end up with a ton of small buds, but if you do that you won’t get any colas . This will result in lots of smaller colas, and no monsters. Or, you can pinch less. One way will create 2 big colas, and the other will create 4. Both will result in some big colas.

The first way involves waiting until the plant has developed 3 or 4 nodes. Then, pinch off the center stem as described earlier, just an inch or half inch over the 2nd node. You’ll get new stems from where you cut the stem as well as from the node below that. Two sets of new stems means 4 colas. The other method is to pinch it off lower. With only one good node left to sprout out main stems you’ll only get two new sprouts. Two new stems will turn into two colas instead of one (or four).

I found a simple to use bookmarking site that lets you create good backlinks. It can be accessed by anyone and is search ready. A traffic generating webmaster will find lots of ideas here. There is nothing to download. It is a ready to go site where you just upload URLS.

Write blog

I found it while using Yahoo link explorer. That’s the tool that Yahoo supplies so that you can count your back links. Using that tool showed me to a link from a site I was previously ignorant of. That led me to URL Organizer.

Registering is easy. Pick a username, pick a password, give them an email, enter a Captcha code and you’re all set. Start entering bookmarks or URLs.

I found that my site on URL Organizer was tagged with “locator”. It was tagged by someone who thought something about my site was worthwhile. They’ve done the same thing with hundreds of other sites.

Write blogs

WHy does anyone care Two reasons. In the first place, my back linked website is very low traffic, and not well developed Even so, it has a Google Rank of 1 which is good considering the little amount of work I’ve done. I have to assume that it’s getting good link juice organically through sites like URL Organizer.

Secondly, you can link to your own sites through this website. You can use it to back link to other people’s sites as well. It’s a simple to use, free source of link juice. Be careful not to abuse it, but you should use it. The page has a Google Page Rank of 5, and that’s not bad.

So, here are the steps required:
1) Go to the site at http://url.org/;
2) Register with a username, password and email;
3) Click on “Add a Bookmark”;
4) Insert the URL you want to add;
5) Enter the title of the site;
6) Enter a description of the site;
7) Enter some tags;
8) Set privacy to “public”;
9) Enter the captcha code;
10) Submit!.

Here’s another trick - search “all bookmarks” for your subject. You will see all the tags others have used, and that will give you some ideas. You’ll also find competing websites as well as complimentary ones.

So, take a look. It’s simple, free and it works. Bookmark your sites, and bookmark your friends’.
